MY SKIN HAS
trust issues too
By Lila — beauty haul enthusiast, glow still pending
I’ve been ghosted, breadcrumbed, soft-launched and situationshipped. But nothing bruises the ego quite like falling for a serum that breaks you out. One day it’s glow city. The next? Redness, bumps, and betrayal. Honestly, I’m starting to think my skin needs therapy too. Because here’s the thing: I want to trust. I want that long-term, barrier-safe, hydration-holding kind of love. But after everything my skin’s been through, it’s giving “don’t touch me unless you’re fragrance-free.”

My skin’s red flag radar? Flawless.
It always starts with the hype. A viral review. A glowy influencer swearing “this changed everything.” I cave. I patch test (once). It smells like spa day and promises overnight transformation. I fall hard. Fast-forward three days and my skin is screaming. Why? Because I didn’t listen. Because I fell for potential — again.
Trust takes time. Like, 28 skin cycle days minimum.
Turns out, building a skincare routine is a lot like dating. You don’t need a dozen suitors. You need a few that actually show up. For me, that’s a gentle jelly cleanser that never leaves me dry. A cooling cream that knows how to handle flare-ups. And a serum that doesn’t try to “fix” me — just supports me.
Rebuilding the relationship
Now I treat my skin like a friend in recovery. I ask: do you feel safe? Are we overdoing it? Is that new product just love-bombing you with promises it can’t keep? Most of the time, the answer is: stick to what works. Sunkiss Remedy?Moonrise Dew? That’s the equivalent of a skincare green flag and a good morning text.
Lesson learned?
Glow doesn’t come from chasing the next big thing. It comes from commitment. From formulas that understand you. From not jumping ship every time something shinier comes along.
And honestly? After years of heartbreak — my skin deserves nothing less.
